How to Create a Simple Electronic Press Kit (EPK) for Musicians

By Freqnc India Team · October 31, 2026

An electronic press kit, or EPK, is a single page or document that introduces you as an artist. It saves busy people time. Instead of sending ten separate links, you share one clear place containing everything they need.

Who uses an EPK?

What to include

  1. Short bio: two or three sentences.
  2. Long bio: two or three paragraphs.
  3. Best music: two to four songs, with direct links.
  4. Video: a live performance or official video.
  5. Photos: high-quality images, with landscape and portrait versions.
  6. Achievements: real numbers and press, if you have them.
  7. Contact: email and booking contact.

Writing a good bio

Write in the third person. Start with who you are and your sound. Include something specific and true. For example: "Rohan Mehra is a Delhi-based Hindi indie songwriter whose songs turn everyday metro journeys into love stories." Avoid empty phrases such as "unique talent" or "taking the industry by storm".

Choosing your best work

Less is more. A booker may listen for only a few seconds. Place your strongest song first. Remove old demos, even if you feel attached to them.

Good photos make a big difference

You do not need an expensive shoot, but images should be clear and well lit. Show your style. Offer at least one simple background, which works for posters. Get permission from the photographer to share them, and credit them where required.

Using numbers honestly

Share facts you can prove, such as your monthly listeners, shows played or a press mention. Do not inflate figures. People in the industry can check, and being caught exaggerating can cost you trust.

Where to host it

Whichever you pick, make sure the links work on mobile, and that access is open without a login.

Tailor it for each use

A wedding planner wants to see live videos and a list of songs. A journalist wants your story and quotes. Keep one master EPK and rearrange the order for each purpose.

How to send it

Write a short, personal email. Explain why you are contacting them and link to your EPK. Do not attach large files without asking. Follow up once, politely, after a week or two.

Update it regularly

Add new releases and remove outdated information. Set a reminder every three months. An old EPK that lists a song from three years ago makes you look inactive.

A simple first version

You can create the first version in one afternoon: write your bios, pick your best two songs, choose three photos and add your email. Then improve it over time. A basic EPK ready today is better than a perfect one you never finish.
